TeamNet attracted 60 academic research projects in the “Eye in the Sky” competition

stire_teamnetBucharest, January 14th, 2013: The “Eye in the Sky” competition, deployed nationally by the IT&C solution integrator TeamNet International, has stirred the interest of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students in Romania. Hence, 60 research projects aiming for a variety of fields have been submitted to the contest from people studying in all the main cities of the country.

“Eye in the Sky” provides the participants with the opportunity to benefit from the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) technology in order to conduct research that they can integrate in their graduation paper. The UAV technology consists in an unmanned small dimension plane, endowed with special sensors that can pick up data applicable in various fields of interests. Seven of the 60 projects submitted will be selected and put into practice by means of the TeamNet technology, and the authors of the three best research papers will win a city-break in a European capital city.

“The Eye in the Sky projects aim to use UAV technology in very different fields of study, such as the analysis of the touristic potential of under-capitalized areas or the study forested areas and crops or in projects in the energy field. We have applications in fields such as Visual Arts or Journalism,” said Bogdan Nedelcu, Solutions Manager and one of the founding members of TeamNet International. “The number of projects submitted in the competition and especially the topics of these academic research projects are another proof that Romania is full of talented young men and women, brimming with original ideas and initiative, but who need encouragement in their efforts,” he continued.

Bucharest is the city with most projects submitted, followed by Iasi, Brasov, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Bacau, Suceava and Constanta. The participants compete either individually or in teams of maximum five members, most of them specializing in geography, agriculture, forestry and urbanism.

The “Eye in the Sky” competition is part of the Think’n'Do program developed by TeamNet. Another academic project within Think’n'Do is Sky Senzor, consisting in the development of hardware and software applications based on video imagery obtained by sensors installed on UAV planes. “Autonomous UAVs” aims to create a UAV management platform, allowing the autonomous performance of missions by one plane or by a group of planes. Opinion Mining & Big Data approaches topics related to the analysis of large quantities of data and texts generated today.

“By means of these programs we aim to consolidate our collaboration with the academic environment, which represents a priority for TeamNet. The academic environment is the place where the IT specialists the market needs are formed, and we are part of this market. That’s why we have taken the responsibility of supporting them in their education efforts,” added Bogdan Nedelcu.

Besides academic research projects, TeamNet has one of the largest internship programs in the country. Last year, 54 students were enrolled in paid internships with the company.
