The Romanian drone Hirrus took part in NATO’s 2016 Unified Vision Exercise

Bucharest, July 14th, 2016 – Two years after the last action of this kind, a team from Romania was once again invited to participate with Hirrus UAV in a JISR (Joint Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance) exercise from Unified Vision trial series, the most important NATO exercise in its history, organized recently in Germany. The most reputed system integrators and ISR technology producers from 17 countries participated to the event for a joint information exchange exercise. The trial took place during a practical drill, aimed at insuring decision support in NATO’s Command and Control Centers.

The event brought together over 400 participants who communicated in a distributed environment from 10 different locations, to respond promptly to threats in complex scenarios.

Hirrus flew in Ilfov area, being coordinated in real time from Germany by Bogdan Nedelcu, Head of Strategic Projects Teamnet Group:  „The integration exercise with the IT and robotics industries proved to be a successful experience. Although, our main focus is the civil sector, Hirrus showed once again its ability to identify and deliver real time data in new areas, meeting the highest standards. Our team delivered real scenarios, on current topics of interest, thus being one of the most appreciated live feeds by the trial participants.

Teamnet’s UAV system dealt with two types of operations: first of all, monitoring and facilitating actions and secondly, protecting an official convoy. During the drill, the following features were under observation: the capacity of the UAV systems to detect and follow moving targets, survey large areas for suspect movements of convoys and search for potential dangerous activities in dense populated areas.

Dr. Timm Ohlhof, Chairman of Study Group 210 at NATO Industrial Advisory Group (NIAG) stated: „Hirrus was operated succesfully in 5 Trial days, even under poor weather conditions. The system had reached a very good visibility within NATO JISR community, and has demonstrated its outstanding performance also during the Distinguished Visitors Day. Teamnet provided an essential contribution to NATO JISR, and worthy represented Romania.”

NATO Communications and Information Agency stated on their website regarding UV16 exercise: „The locations taking part included Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Live assets used included the US RQ-4 Block 30 Global Hawk, the Romanian Hirrus, and the Belgian B-Hunter remotely piloted air systems.”

The command post was hosted by the United States Air Forces in Europe Warrior Preparation Center in Germany.
