Teamnet develops innovative technologies in the industrial robotics field for the European project Megarob

Bucharest, August 6th, 2015 – Teamnet Group, one of the most important IT&C integrators in the region, develops and implements innovative technologies in the field of industrial robotics at European level, as part of the prestigious international consortium that conducts the research and development project Megarob.

The project, cofunded by the European Commission, consists in a next generation complex and multifunctional industrial robotic assembly, forming an impressive flexible platform of 20 meters long and 6 meters wide. This system includes a spherical robot, a 3D gantry crane and a laser monitoring system. The assembly enables the use of the spherical robot in the entire volume delimited by the gantry crane and with an optimal accuracy of the Laser-Tracker system, in real time. Controlled by an advanced software, Megarob will enable the automated execution of high precision operations in the production of medium and large components and structures. The robot will be ready to use starting October this year.

Bogdan Padiu, Founder and CEO TeamNet Group“Megarob is a unique invention in the world, through the advanced integrated technologies in the field of robotics. The system replaces the use of several robots in a common production line, or work on huge parts, offering companies the possibility to innovate the working process, thus streamlining the operations and necessary investments on this segment. Megarob will revolutionize the production process in various fields such as aeronautics, railway and sea transportation, infrastructure engineering and renewable energy. We are honored to represent Romania in this project and through our team’s know-how and expertise, proven in the field of research and development in robotics, we aim to make a real difference in the society.”

Within the project, Teamnet defined, developed and integrated the software interfaces of the robot and will install the control system on the prototype version in the following months. This system uses two computers, one dedicated to robot position and correction and other to check operations and operate the system. The concept and functionalities of Megarob are proved in a video available here and a 3D animation of the prototype can be seen here.

José Antonio Dieste, representing AITIIP Technology Centre, the leader of the consortium, stated: “We are experiencing a very professional relationship with Teamnet, and of course with all the consortium. As a result of it we will be able to show to the industry one of the biggest and more accurate robots ever seen. Megarob prototype, which is being tested at AITIIP facilities, will unlock one of the doors of the factories of the future.”

The Megarob project was launched in November 2012. Coordinated by AITIIP Technology Centre, the international consortium Megarob combines the solid expertise and broad competencies in the development of innovative technologies and solutions of seven organizations in Spain, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Teamnet is the only company in Romania part of this consortium, together with CSEM – The Swiss Center of Electronics and Microtechnology, ESPACE 2001, GH Gruas, Leica Geosystems and Acciona Infraestructuras.

This project has been funded by the seventh Framework Programe for Research of the European Commission, within the call PPP Factories of the Future, contract nº 314015. Project website is http://www.megarob.eu/.

Annually, Teamnet invests more than 10% of its turnover in research and development projects.
